Oscar fever
has swept the PM office.
Moments after he learned of his nomination as Best Director (for The Queen), I grabbed a word with Stephen Frears. I wouldn't normally name drop like this (unlike my very very very good friend Nelson Mandela) but Mr Frears, as he was told it was an interview for PM said "Oh - I listen to that".
So we are now officially backing him and all the other nominees from the film for the Oscars.
Does anyone know how we can influence the judges (short of bribery, obviously)?
Well if he's a regular listener he may also be a frogger. I wonder what his nom-de-frog might be?
Eddie are your hosting the Oscars this year?
I can picture it now...
(Eddie Mair to say)
Ladies and Gentlemen... We do have some sad news to report. Bjork could not be here. She was trying on her Oscars dress and Dick Cheney shot her!
Nice to hear my brother Oscar got the janitorial job at the Beeb.
If you want to know the time - Oscar Peterson.
My thoughts exactly Gillian (1). Wouldn't that be exciting if we had a famous film directory lurking on the blog!
So Eddie are you attending? Would love to see you on the red carpet asking Cameron Diaz who she's wearing!!!
How to influence the judges for an award:
Make a loan or donation to the Culture Secretary.
Join Opus Dei.
How you can influence the judging? Hmm - are we talking cash for Oscars here?
Fiona (5): Is that a hair gel gag?
Ref (5)...........I mean, off course, a famous Film Director! Oops!!
Suggestions for bribery:
Speak to your very very very good friend Paddy and ask him for a BH spoon. Even rarer than Blue Peter Badges, I believe (and a lot rarer than an Oscar) ....
Jason, Fiona;
Herr Gell is a famous Film Director ?
In a not so nice moment, I anticipate the luscious competition there will be between the 3 British nominees for Best Actress. Whilst their rhetoric will be all about how brilliant it is for 3 British actresses to be nominated, I think some seeting will be not so far from the surface & I can't wait for the rictus grins of those whose name is not announced, especially if it is another of their compatriots.
Naughty Jason (8)!! - that thought hadn't occured to me! Just plucked a name from my head But now you mention it, would add an interesting slant on the usual intention of that question on Oscar night :0)
How to influence the judges? Offer them Charlotte Green's autograph. Now she really is a celebrity.
Big Sis - we have a BH spoon!
although I have to admit we don't have a Blue Peter badge.
Admin: Well, expect a call from Eddie now. You may as well be holding a gold ingot!
Fiona (5) We already have a froggers' famous film directory......follow the signpost to the Beach, where you may find Stephen Frears lounging on a sun-bed if you're quick. He doesn't seem to be the type who enjoys the public gaze.
Eddie:
Did you make it into the office this morning? Is the White City living up to its name today?
Here in Sussex the world is awash with the white stuff, and I'm a very happy bunny (see previous postings and you'll know I have a love affair with snow, and, due to climate change, have been suffering withdrawal symptoms for several years here in the balmy South).
Snow showers are still falling intermittently, and the weather forecast promised more snow tomorrow.
Lovely!
Big Sister @ 18
I can confirm that it has indeed been snowing at White City. Sadly, the sheer number of Â鶹Éç staff tramping to work (and believe me, the state of some of them means "tramp" is indeed the right word) means that what snow there is, has rapidly turned to sludge and slush.
Still, it was nice at 0720 when I got in.
There was even a covering where I live, but sadly any photo I could have taken would have looked frankly rubbish compared to the scene outside Lissa's front door.
Oh Frog Prince, you spake/spoke! The lilypads are indeed cold today.
Nice to hear from you, Marc, and with confirmation of the state of the broadcasting nation. Tramps, eh? Did you notice any bottles of meths in their coat pockets, I wonder?
I response to Eddie's next posting, I'll be sending email haste a picture of life in Sussex under the snow. A lot like Derbyshire under the snow, incidentally.
Glad to know there are caring folk up there to break the ice for life in the pond (Note: I have resisted the urge to talk about pondlife, but you know what I mean ...) :o)
Hurrah!!
The NBP speaks! (19)
He lives!
Si.
Simon:
I think he's disappeared again under the lilypads.
Such is life in the pond. :o)
Am I too late with this joke:
Can you ask Oscar Fever to come round and sweep my office - but make sure he knows to recycle free papers rather than bin them...
Oscars? These chuffin' film stars earn pots of money AND want prizes as well!
One big Yawnfest, I'm afraid,
I have a Blue Peter badge.
It dates from the era of Saint Valerie Singleton and is signed by Biddy Baxter.
Sadly, they never broadcast my idea for making bookmarks out of old Christmas cards and ribbon.
Fifi
Fifi: Signed by Biddy Baxter? Did they 'sign' the badges?
My sister in law used to live next door to Biddy and speaks very highly of her.
NBP - so nice to know you're still there! Where have you been these last few days? We've missed your voice. Lissa has been blogging more than you recently. I hope you haven't been made to work have you?
Oh hello Marc! At last!! And do you have a Blue Peter badge?
I've just 'Listened Again' to yesterday's PM and there was an awful lot of excited giggling on the part of the interviewer whilst talking to Mr Frears.....!
Fellow froggers may like to know that "Biddy Baxter" can easily be sung to the tune of "Chitty Bang Bang" (in a soprano voice if you like, Big Sis). I mention this only because I was reminded of it when I read her name. Many things can be sung to this tune -- indeed, I often find it helpful when needing to remember items between leaving the bathroom and adding them to my shopping list (in the kitchen)... For example, picture, if you will, Aperitif on her regular trip down the stairs cheerfully singing "Mini tampon, mini-mini tampon, mini tampon, mini-mini tampon, oh you mini-mini tampon, mini-mini tampon we love you..."
(Oops, have I disturbed the boys in here now?)
I'm sorry, I had a stressful morning and am ridiculously cheerful now it's over. This is an explanation rather than an excuse...
GM: I thought the same myself - unless there was someone else in the studio at the same time!
gossipmistress (29) it was empathy. Empathy I tell you.
I'm sure I could be equally empathetic if I were to interview Mr Clooney.....
Appy - :o)
