TWO YEARS AND A BIG THANKS TO YOUS ALL.

Chris Evans | 14:13 UK time, Friday, 18 April 2008

Two years ago today this show hit the air and lo and behold....

...here we are still. Now honestly, I have forgotten how long the contract was for. Is this it ? Are we required on Monday. It was definitely two or three years. Let's hope it's the latter.

It all still feels brand new to me.I remember having the same feeling on The Big Breakfst right up until the next day. It was never a drag, never a chore, not for one second. Drivetime is even less so, older and wiser I've realised it's all about pacing oneself and trying to turn in consistent performances every day.

No matter what the rest of the day throws at us we know we have five till seven to escape the world. Being on the radio is a privilege not to be taken for granted and I promise you we all realise this every second of all our working days.

Hats off to the team, hats off to you, hats off to us all.

Now where's that contract ?

Happy Birthday all! Two years, where does it go...

Truly, it's a cracking show i often see fellow drivers and you can just tell that they too are tuned in!

5 - 7 was a gap needing filling and you have certainly surpassed all expectations!

    Greetings and Salutations from Canada,

Firslty, I would like to offer my most hearty congratulations to Mr. Evans and the entire team. For two years, you have furnished us with some fine entertainment, witty repartee, stimulating guests, piquant epicurian tips, marvelous music and a wealth of other things. I am sure I echo the sentiments of many others when I say "many thanks".

To all other contirbutors to and readers of this blog, I wish you all the finest of weekends and the best of health. For my troubles, I am indulging in dinner at a Greek restaurant this evening, a pub lunch with friends on the morrow (after watching my beloved Rovers vs. Man U at 9:15am local time) and some golf on Sunday. Well, someone has to.

    Enjoy, relax, love and appreciate.

    Good day to you all.

    Dr. T

    Chris,

Congratulations to you and the team - I don't get to hear the show as much as I would like, but when I do, it's really terrific. Lang May Yer Lum Reek! or something like that!

Well, the new blog is off to a complete flyer - welcome to all the new faces, too many to mention, but in no time at all you will be regulars on here and you're gonna love it!

Debbie-C: your wee boy might have other imaginary friends, nothing to worry about. However, it was rather arresting for us when MsS (who is now 17) came through to us, when she was about 4-ish, and said "there's a lady in my bedroom". Of course, we jumped out of our chairs and ran through to her room. No-one there! But she was absolutely adamant that a lady had been in there a few minutes before! Spooky .... eh?!

AS66: Dial a Disk - I was listening to that one day when my boss approached my desk and just stood there. I proceeded to pretend to have a conversation with Dial a Disk, but I'm sure he must have known what I was up to!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    C xx

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY DRIVETIME!

I have been reading your blogs for a long time and have loved getting to know your regulars, so I thought it was about time I joined up and contributed, although it does feel like the first day in school where everyone has already made friends......

    Hello.....ok if I join in?

I love the show Chris, here's to another 2 years!!

  • Comment number 7.

    Hi Chris,

It's amazing to think that you have been doing drive time for two years its like you have always been on the radio and it would be a sad time if it were to stop, here's hoping that it will go on for ever, or life just would not be the same!

I really think you and the gang should go out and celebrate, you are all doing so well.

Hope you all have a great week-end, lets hope the sun shines! Love Jenn x x

Happy Second Birthday to you and all the team!

  • Comment number 13.

Clodagh have you signed a contract with the beeb yet? Star of WUTW/J Vine/and gobsmackers (at least twice)/kickstart ARF on Drivetime - world domination beckons. You have too much talent to be this side of the mike. You should be the Drivetime equivalent of Wrighties "Ask Elvis" or the not so "old woman".
Have a safe and happy weekend all.
    Wilsmar.

WHATSMYID - hi and welcome, don't worry we are a friendly bunch :-)

When the Beatles came on I had forgotton I was wearing my beatles t-shirt and took my jumper of to celebrate. Seeing as I work in a office and listern through an ear piece no-one knew what i was up to but it made me happy.

Happy birthday to you and the team and to all other birthdays today and coming up - my kittens are two next month and we have the party planned already (ok maybe not, but they might get decent cat food for a change)

  • Comment number 21.

    Good evening all.

Guess I'm fairly lucky to maintain my nearly original name, apparently the Apparently! made it too long. Shucks....

Off to get my old tattoo finished tomorrow, and a new one started and hopefully finished at the same time. Fella wants to nip to Alton Towers on Sunday, but with 2 new tats on my back and one on his I think this may not be the best laid plan.

I often have dreams which have something written down in them, and most of the time I can read it, but best of all I remember them in the morning and often weird out my colleagues and friends when I reiterate them. Aliens, murder, living blobs of sweets that are going to war....CLP is not the only one that needs to see somebody.

    Cheers,

    MW, a!

  • Comment number 22.

Well, how two years fly by! For about a fortnight I thought Johnnie Walker couldn't be followed - now I see how suited he is to Sundays. I pick hubby up from work at 5.30 - he always complains but I just turn the sound up so I don't miss Rebecca! Plus, when we drove past the olde restaurant a few weeks ago, I think even he was impressed! I've promised him an anniversary meal there.

For the record, tonight's Delilah was ... well ... the most exciting yet, thanks to Jonny Saunders.
Hope the contract was for 3 years but 5 would be better. LOL

PS: How many ways can you spell Jonnie??

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DRIVE TIME!!! Heres to the next two years.
6pm onwards is a bitof a mad house here on the ranch with himself coming in from work and gettin the jam eaters to bed, so I often use the listen online facitlty and do you know what!!!! Some times I forget its not live and I text in, hahahaha, the shows so good it makes you loose your sense of reality, at least for a couple of hours.
    Have a lovely weekend, xxxxxx

  • Comment number 26.

Chris I love your show but then I have loved all of them, radio or tv. But as you say, when you get older you slow down, see more and appreciate things more. I purposely leave certain jobs so that I can be in the kitchen to listen to the show. Congratulations on two years of great radio and looking forward to many more.

Clodagh, well done you for getting your song played by the way!

ChrissieS, very spooky that would really freak me out. I've never seen a ghost but Mr Debbie has. Twice! But not in this house I'm pleased to say.

I love that more and new bloggers are here today too. The more the merrier I say. Hello WhatsmyID x

    Have a great weekend everyone

    Debbie x x

PS. Has anyone watched the clip from the CLP home page where they talk about sex education? I couldn't help but thinking how it was like Creature Comforts and thinking about what animals they would be. I need to get out more.

  • Comment number 27.

Deb, I have to admit the new blog name has been shamelessly nicked from a kids cartoon, but its always makes me giggle!
I saw a ghost once not a very nice one either, thankfully it was only for a second but it was enough to leave a lasting impression, doused myself in holy water and wore a rosary beads round me neck for MONTHS after.....

  • Comment number 28.

CLP - Well done on two years!

I often find myself advocating your show to people who did not realise (or believe) that you are on radio 2 these days. The conversation goes a bit like this:

yes,....that Chris Evans..the one who used to do BB and DFYT. Just imagine the same sense of humour, but a bit older, a bit wiser, he really a man of the people you know.....

Long may you and your team continue.

Happy birthday Drivetime, where has two years gone?! I can't believe it!

Gingembre- I hope you are getting ok and not in too much pain from the op. Will send you a message on fb.

Going to the fella's later. Its been a strange week regarding the fella. He has been really busy and is now rehersing with a new band who I dont completly trust. I'm not going into too much detail but one of the other members of the band doesn't seem to get that the fella and I actually want to spend some time together and expects him to be there at a moments notice for who knows long.
Anyway hopefully it will sort itself out soon.
I have to believe that anyway or I'll go insane!

Hope this post gets through as I gave up after trying loads on tuesday! Love Missy xx

    Chris,

To be honest with you i was in dismay when i heard that you was taking over from JW. Although i thought you was perfectly suited to a sat pm slot, i didn't think you'd make it into a drivetime slot and was researching my listening options . . . .. . well boy i got news for you . . . . .. .there i am every day at 1700 when i working i'm listening to you :) well done Chris. Lets hope you manage to keep the drivetime slot as long as TW has kept the breaky show :)

Ahhh now I've caught up - Many happy returns to the Drivetime Crew you make so many people's drive home a pleasure. I too enjoyed Johnny Walker for sheer pleasure and some of his guests later were interesting. But I must say how much things have changed what with women's minute, the locker, challenge Foxy, the gobsmackers, kids fanfare and the office news I am surprised we ever have only 5-7 not later.

I hope that drivetime with Chris Evans is kept on the air for a long time. Good luck keeping the format fresh and interesting and I've loved womens minute this week - such fun.

    Thank you Drivetime

A big hello to all the new blogger names out there so many in such a small time, just think how many bloggers had been having problems for so long and now there's a new system they are all appearing - welcome to the blog.

Happy 2nd Birthday Happy Happy Team!! I was a huge Walker fan and not looking forward to C Lambie Pie but won over BIG time! xxx

Don't normally blog at weekend but if I leave this lot until Monday wont get any work done!

Had to lock up office before scooting off to the Spar to get a Pizza and anything with Delia cheat written on it (that book was so hot off the press it burnt my fingers phhssst! - see?) so thought I would check blog.

By the way new bloggers (welcome - I am fairly new myself) office is at bottom of garden - 20 or so ladylike steps from house or 10 if its chucking it down like now!! Now I have practised, I can manage a couple of Phoebe spins without whacking the filing cabinet so its a reasonable size.

Like to have a bit of a bubbly soak at weekend so all planned, until the groomer arrived an hour early to trim doggie! Oh well - bath later. Doggie out of van back in to house - aaaarrrggghhhh! He's supposed to have big floppy ears and gentle feathering!! Calling him baldy until it all grows back!

Phone call from old gits (other half's not mine - mine long gone bless them) so another 3/4 hour trip to Misery Mansion (I tell you, really bad vibes in that place - I avoid like the plague) but at least bald doggie can get a good run - the garden is massive! Hope none of his exposed bits fall off - it's a bit cold! - So - quick sarny and off you go chaps - its me to the bath!

Good dollop of the old bubbly stuff - 1 cig, (naughty) - magazine - in I pop - OUT I scream!!! By water freezing!!!! 3 squids worth of foamy stuff down the plug - quick shower and here I am! Have to wait until the other half gets back to fix the hot water (which was switched on) - he knows just where to thump it - with my luck at the moment there would be a flood so left well alone!

    OH JOY OH JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P S .Just tried to read Clodagh's bee and tit blog to my sister - will have to email her later - I couldn't speak and she couldn't answer! (Many moons ago we used to wake our parents up giggling so much couldn't stop!!!)More mascara before I head for the Spar!!

    Love
    Biggles Mum xxx

PPS Just got back from Spar - forgot to hit post comment so still sitting here - Guess what?? pizza on offer - two for something or other - but I forgot - big freezer stock up so can't get them both in!! OH JOY!!!!!

Good week-end one and all - see you Monday - I hope!!!!! BMxxx

    Buenos Dias one and all

I don't usually blog on Saturdays cause I have a market stall, but got rained off today.

Now it's no small wonder we suffer from nightmares given Clodagh's blogs. Imagine, Johnny Vegas in a Bee suit.

On a serious note though, a fox (not fox the fox) Wandered through the garden today with a dead animal in it's mouth. It proceeded to bury it and no doubt will return for a feast tonight. I think it was a squirrel. I am worried my little Westie resembling a spring lamb might be it's next victim.
    More nightmares to come.

B-sMum, you have made me want a bubbly soak now, in fact once I've hit 'Post Comment' that is exactly what I'm going to do.

Fairlyoddmother (giggling again!) the thought of seeing a ghost for a second, especially a nasty one really gives me the heebie jeebies. Mr Debbie woke to see an old couple sitting on the end of his bed, how awful!

DrBeeker, don't worry. After having much experience with foxes they are generally scared of domestic pets. People normally worry about their cats buts foxes so rarely take on one. And it must be quite well fed to bury the squirrel and not eat it straight away!

Missy, has this other chap got a girlfriend? I shouldn't jump to conclusions but I bet he doesn't. I went out with a guy who was in a band for a few years. He played lead guitar and I used to go and watch the band practice a couple times a week, I even got a few drum lessons thrown in from the drummer. I quiet liked being a groupie actually. Got to go to some cool gigs and go home with one of the band!

Off for that bath now, bliss!
    Love

Christoff Lambie Pie bless yous, look at that face. It's a face you'd never get tired of slappin', hurrah!

Biggles Mum. Hahaha it's gratifying to hear that, thaks hun. One day I'll tell you the goldfish story but I'll need a month on the Prozac first.

Well it's Saturday night and I've bin invited to a party, an illegal piss-up in a farmers' field and a pub quiz but I'm sat here with Renee watchin' the Nancies, oh dear. What a saddo. Still, bless her, she's going into hospital on Monday and I'd say she must be frightened, although she doesn't want to talk about it much and I'm just trying to keep her company, distract her and make her laugh. And I'll have plenty time for misbehaviour once we've got her over this and I'm back in Ireland.

Hahaha she's just come out with a purler.

"Now THAT'S what I call a nice frock. Look. She looks right bonny. Last week she 'ad one on that was that short I thought summat was winkin' at me."

So have one for me, chaps and chapesses. And make it a large one.

    Bottoms up.

B's Mum Thanks for the fox information. I hope you are right! But I had a guinea pig eaten by one once you see.

Wheeeee! Fully signed up member of the blog. How exciting! Have to say reading through the posts I'm quite excited at the thought of no more 502's :D Had a hard time thinking of a name, the first one I thought of was the nickname my granddaddy used to call me - refinej. And it was taken!!! Unbelievable.

So I have become the weetomonster - for a diabetic I have a rubbish diet at the moment, weetos, weetos and more weetos with the odd glass of chocolate milk thrown in. Hehe - thank God for insulin is all I can say about that really. I will be turning into a weeto soon.

    Anyways.

Happy Birthday Drivetime!! I can't believe it's been two years, where has the time gone?! Hmm two years ago... I think this time two years ago we were still in Finland so we probably missed the beginning. I remember coming back to the UK in the summer and wondering if JW was just on holiday and then when it appeared to be a rather extended holiday of 3, 4, 5 weeks I did begin to wonder....

Chris you done good, lad! What a show. Do you remember when Basil Brush was a guest on the show? I was on a petrol station forecourt shaking with laughter, tears streaming down my face, attempting to fill the car up with petrol listening to the "boom boom" - oh what memories! If you ever manage to get BB back on the show PLEASE give us forewarning so I can try not to be doing something that could cause an accident otherwise!

Right I'm going to attempt to get up now, second bowl of weetos is calling...

    Morning All xx

It's nice getting to blog over the weekend :o)

Clodagh I hope Renee is better soon xx

I also ate too much and drank too much last night! A friend was supposed to come for dinner and cancelled an hour before she was due to arrive when in actual fact she should have been on her way to me! How rude is that? All I got was a txt saying "sorry something has come up I can't make it"! My first reaction was to ask if everything was okay but I'm still waiting for a reply! We haven't been in touch for a while so it was an opportunity for us to catch up...guess who is off my Christmas card list!!!

Of course I didn't want any of the food to go to waste :o)) so I ate far too much and washed it down with too much wine :o))

Here's a question for you all. You put a pillow slip in the washing machine the correct way round as in outside out and inside in but when it comes out it has been turned out the wrong way so that it's inside out! Bizarre!

Hope you are all having a nice Sunday. Weather isn't too bad here, sun is out but it's a bit cold. Few fluffy white clouds in the sky but not too many dark ones!

    Take care
    Mary xx

  • Comment number 48.

Mary - I hate it when the pillow cases disappear inside the duvet cover and you have to forrage inside the wet duvet cover to retrieve them. What's that all about then?

Had a lovely day yesterday: put in 4 rows of spuds over the allotment then had a relaxing bath before going out to some friends house for dinner.

Then this morning Me and Mr Diva did a really long walk to blow away the wine cobwebs that had gathered over night - we were out for just under 4 hours and I think we did about 9 miles - over fields, through fields, round fields .... very exhilarating. Lovely.

I've now got a rhubarb cake in the oven and am about to embark on making a lasagne!

Grand show on Friday CLP - I did the D in my kitchen whilst doing a paella for dinner.

Short week this week: Thursday pm and Friday off for a friends' wedding. Can't wait .... THE HAT will be getting its world premier!

Hope everyone's well and having a chilled weekend.

I dreamt I was having a rather exciting tryst with Mr Noel Fielding. I can only hope and pray that I wasn't talking (or anything else) in my sleep or else Mr Diva might think I have a "thing" for Mr Noel Tidy Beard, and not Mr Mighty Boosh.

    Whatsa gal to do???

    Laters ....

    Morning all!

Twasnt me Dr B re the fox twas Debbie. Only thing I know about foxes is the little cutie, obviously very young who padded down the garden path looking around at his new world and--

The mangy old fox who killed Jemina puddle duck and the chickens next door to our bolt hole in Wales.

Do I hate them or love them - what do you think? where's me horse and hounds! (by the way horses terrify me - once hoisted up on to a 20ft race horse and it obviously didn't like me too much!!)

You know you are getting old one and all when….

You start having runs out in the car on a Sunday.
Well as one of us had won free Sunday Lunch for four at the best hotel in Weymouth, it seemed a good idea.
We decided first to go to Portland Bill. Now I felt a bit ridiculous tottering around the cliff tops in my five inch heels. People wore anoraks and binoculars to watch the guillemots. (Fascinating).
We took in a few breaths of fresh air and proceeded to the Hotel. On arrival in the bar we could observe the restaurant, not unlike a BHS Café. People were queuing at a hatch and making their way to tables with huge plates of food. One woman seemed oblivious to the fact that her overburdened plate was dripping gravy all down her skirt.
Well, we decided not to eat and ended up in a Pub in Little Piddle or somewhere or other. Sunday Lunch was over so had to settle for Ham Eggs and Chips.

PS Debbie and B's Mum sorry about the confusion!

PS . Moose, what you doing in Germany? Are you in the Army now?

Well done Clodagh on getting your ARF choice!

Had a lovely weekend. Mr P took me out for a thai on Saturday night and we had a lovely, lazy one at the pub on Sunday. He's working away in Edinburgh all week so I'm not the happiest bunny today :(

MwK - sorry to keep you in suspenders (I hate it when people do that as well). Well, you know I was having a bit of a work dilemma last week (along with MfR - hope you're OK, chief) and travelling and what to do etc, well, Mr P and I have decided to try and buy our little house. Renting seems like such a waste of money plus when we finally get up off our arses and go travelling, we'll have a base to come back to and won't have to move in with the 'rents - bliss. Anyway, that's me.

CtD - Noel Fielding dreams? I am so jealous. Mr P and I are going to see the Boosh live in November - can't wait!

Hazel - congrats on the job.

    Still no sign of Bingo?

Please can somebody let John Prescott know that he forgot to vomit!! Does he know that bulimia isn't just about stuffing his face, he's forgotten the most crucial part.

It's no way bulimia he's suffered, more like he's a fat, greedy politician that spent most of our money on chauffers, women and food.

    Have a good day everybody

CTD - I am so jealous - I never get to dream about the lovely Noel (have applied to get tickets for Buzzcocks as he is guest starring again next series) - I am more likely to dream about my childhood, mores the pity .

Weekend not so bad, went out for dinner on sat with friends and we were practically the only people there, food great, service fantastic so cannot see what the problem is. And no, I'm not telling where as I want to keep it quiet but the place is in Bucks :-)

Then went out for dinner gain Sunday lunch at the one retaurant TLOML cannot eat a thing (it was a friends party) as all pasta or tomoatoes, poor biy - he had a salad and dinner when we got in.

SO gym definately today before my trousers start to protest.

I agree John Prescott has certainly doesn't look like he suffered from Bulimia, to the best of my knowledge bulimics are not fat like he is!

Aw Mary, that's a really nice thing to say about someone you only know in a "virtual" environment.

I always try my best to be positive, and as old-time bloggers are well aware, I've had my share of down-time over the last 18 months or so ... but the blog and the wonderful people on the blog (and of course CLP) have always been there to put a smile back on my moosh.

I love this blog sooooooooooo much!

    Big hugs to absolutely everyone.

    TeeeHeeeHeeeee ....

I've just spent a bit of lunch-hour being very girly and childish .... but I can highly recommend it to everyone!

I did an image search for Noel Fielding and sized and printed it onto the colour printer, then got all "Blue Peter" and customised my dull 2008 calendar so that April is now "Noel Fielding" month!

I intend to carry this on for the rest of the year (the calendar is sooooooo dull, trust me!) and have Josh Holloway and Russell Brand primted up for May and June.

Suggestions for July - December gratefully received - along with a "who would YOU have on your calendar" reveal to bloggers!!

NB: keep it clean as this is a R2 site!

I'm off now to do some Akchewal work.

CTD - I have the Johnny Depp calandar (Christmas present to me) and when I took it to work me and my boss (female) decided which were our fav pictures of him.

SO my suggestion, Johnny Depp - the lon hair sultry pictures are the best - yum yum

I know that he is barking mad in Eastenders, but I think the guy that plays Sean Slater is quite easy on the eye.

Busy, busy, busy...... back later x

I too have the Johnny Depp calendar. December is gorgeous, but I quite like the one of him sat at the cafe table as he looks the spit of me fella. Who's a lucky girl then? Oh yeah, its me!

Good weekend. Tats all look darn fine and not too much ouchy going on. Today is fairly animal based, what with cleaning out and vet visits and best of all preparing for my chickens which will be delivered next week.

    Omlette, anyone?

    MW, a!

Have just about had time to read this page...have no idea when I can ketchup to all the others.

    Hi Chris
Hope Enzo is on the mend.
We were with Deano the German Shepheard at the Hydro yesterday.
Although he is 11 years old you could see what can be achieved.
Deano has been really sore over night after his swim but hopefully it is helping him.
I though what a lovely dog Enzo looked and am sure he will pull through.
Noel and his team are fantastic.
Maybe bump into you again at the pool.
    All the best
    Graham

After perusing the piccys on the Drivetime blog - does anyone else agree that Sally Traffic looks like Courtney Love? Have they both been seen at the same time the same room without the use of smoke and mirrors?

I used to enjoy your Saturday afternoon show (taking over from Dermot) in the sunshine in the garden. Love your drive time show (very rarely driving anywhere when you are on), only get to hear it all when eggheads isnt on the telly though. Might start to 'listen again' to catch the other hour. Everyone on the prog seems to have such a good time, if I wasnt already in a good mood you lot soon cheer me up. By the way what was the name of the whistler you had on before xmas?
