THE BRITS AREN鈥橳 COMING. NOT FOR ME AT LEAST, WELL IT鈥橲 NOT OFFICIAL BUT I鈥橫 JUST TAKING A WILD GUESS.

Chris Evans | 08:41 UK time, Thursday, 23 November 2006

I will not be hosting The Brits this year. How do I know ? Well I don鈥檛 really it鈥檚 just that normally they鈥檝e told you by now but they haven鈥檛, so I can only suppose I鈥檓 not. Truth be told I don鈥檛 think I should anyway, I think they should be hosted by some bright young thing. That鈥檚 the whole idea of the Brits. They should be a celebration of youthful abandon and energy, not a cosy succession of quid pro quos, where the industry feels good about itself at the cost of everyone else.

Here鈥檚 what else I think鈥

鈥he Brits are too long, I know you鈥檝e probably never been but seriously it鈥檚 an interminably dull night, the best vantage point is definitely sat at home in front of the telly. It鈥檚 a complete bun fight with the best people zipping in picking up their gong and zipping off again and then ten thousand corporate no hopers getting totally trollied before the first award is even announced.

The best thing about hosting the show is that you get two tables for your mates who have a wail of a time whilst you鈥檙e up there waiting for the next change over. By the time it鈥檚 all over, they鈥檙e too drunk to string two words together and you鈥檙e too tired to care.

There is talk of them being live this year which I think is an excellent idea. I would have loved to present a live show, all four I did were on tape and thoroughly uneventful. People talk about the Jarvis Cocker/Michael Jackson moment but nothing was actually ever seen on screen, this is what people forget. The whole affair was edited out for telly, cos鈥 the producers were shit scared that they might have been sued for, well I鈥檓 not sure they knew what. Live is so much better, trust the night, what ever happens, happens, just go with it ! We shouldn鈥檛 know who鈥檚 won or what they鈥檙e going to say, what鈥檚 the point in watching if we do, I鈥檝e never understood that.

The general ethos of The Brits being pre recorded was that, with the winners being published in all the papers the nest morning, loads of publicity would be generated for the show being broadcast that night, thus increasing the viewing figures but when the headlines are, 鈥淓r., nothing happened at the Brits again (and by the way nothing鈥檚 ever really happened anyway, it鈥檚 just that people have failed to notice this)鈥 then people don鈥檛 care about watching anyway.

There should be less music too. For me, last year, the self indulgent early Prince performance would have turned a lot of viewers off. He was a nightmare leading up to the event, one minute he was coming, the next he wasn鈥檛鈥ery bad karma and I think he paid the price. If people are umming and ahhing about coming, cancel them, the show has to be the thing. I threw several bands off TFI, it was really funn they couldn't believe, Bjork was being a total arse one day and i just told her to go, four hours before transmision, she thought it was a joke until I told the security guards to escort her off the premises. The decision left an eleven minute hole in our running order, so I phoned a young director up called Guy Ritchie and asked him if he'd like to come on and talk about this new film I'd heard about called, "Lock, Stock and something," the rest as I'm sure you know is history, as now is Bjork, ha ha ! Karma, karma, karma.

More awards, more speeches, more honesty. Honesty is the key to anything, to everything, if something鈥檚 contrived, people know, they don鈥檛 know how they know they just do.
I want to sit at home in February and be genuinely excited about what is about to take place on my television screen. If it鈥檚 possible for anything to be live on television or radio, then it should be. Live gives everything an unbeatable edge.

So, for the record, I hope Razorlight clean up, their album is easily the best album of the year. I hope Lemar wins every solo award, he鈥檚 amazing, a man born out of his time. I hope Oasis appear and regain some of their former credibility, Noel (鈥渉ave you heard my greatest hits yet?鈥) is becoming a grumpy old man. I hope the organisers tell anyone who鈥檚 being arsie to go have a word with themselves or just leave!. I hope the wonderful Helen Terry, the producer, gets less of a hard time this year and a lot more hugs, kisses and pats on the back and I hope whoever hosts it, is NOW and wants it, for me it should be Alex Zane, if you don鈥檛 know who he is then don鈥檛 worry about it but trust me he鈥檇 be the perfect choice, as long as he doesn鈥檛 take himself too seriously.

Whatever happens I wish everyone involved all the best but it would have been nice if someone would have picked up the phone to let me know what鈥檚 going on neeer mind, there you are.

x.

P.S. Went to see The Red Hot Chilli Peppers last night and still didn鈥檛 have a fag !

p.p.s. Lynne, doggies are the best but we know it's because we love them so much that we're going to be sad when they're gone. I had a greyhound called Rita, she was beautiful and I cried like a baby as she was put to sleep in my arms, I remember burying her and saying my final goodbyes, it was heaftbreaking but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way Seriously get another baby today, there's a greyhound out there that needs you right now ! and it's just what Clive would have wanted, in fact, what the heck get two, that's what I did and now Epstien and Percy are causing havoc in the Surrey hills, they're mental. Lots of love but come on sweetheart, we're still here the sun is shining you need a dog and a dog needs you xxx.

P.P.P.S. Seriously thinking about swapping my Sky for Freeview, the clue's in the question F R E E view, what are we all thinking ? It has to be done.

P.P.P.P.S. I think the chef has left, her bags have gone and there's a can of beans and a loaf been left next to the kettle.

P.P.P.P.P.S. Really enjoying the p.s.'s today.

P.P.P.P.P.P.'S. Whooppee !

All pulled together by a chap called Bob Cilman. Made me sit there with a big grin most of the way through and cry the rest! I am definitely going to be like Stan or Lenny in another 50yrs (well ok another 40 yrs!). If you didn鈥檛 watch it, you missed an absolute treat.

I went to a Pulp gig the day after Jarvis was released from the nick after mooning MJ at the brits - the gig was ace, one of the best I think I've been too (one of the best bands I saw live however was Australian little known outfit Powderfinger at one of the V's).

I think that Russel Brand would be a good choice, seems intelligent, is unlikely to take many prisoners. Alex Zane seems a bit too safe I think, although he would probably do a v good job!

Woke up early this morning and listened to the end of play on R4 LW... Now that's worth doing, but only for the commentary, not for the cricket scores, especially today!

I think it could be time to dust off your cricket 'We're on the ball' parody from the old 1215 days and raise a bit of cricketing morale!!

    OK class, first lesson of the day. The following equation illustrates why I feel the way I do this morning;

Several key points in there I feel, but a harsh reminder that watching a bunch of nobodies playing around in the 鈥榡ungle鈥 with their self-importance turned up to 11 can have profound effects on your health.

How were the Chilis? They鈥檙e probably the one band that I feel I really ought to get round to seeing at some stage. Over the years I got to see most of my favourites including a then unknown Guns & Roses at the old Wardour St Marquee, George Michael at various phases of his career and Prince on the night of England v Germany world cup semi final. An interesting night as despite the awesome gig you got the feeling that 9000 people really wanted to be in the pub down the road.

I think a proper bracing wintery walk around the Surrey hills is on the cards for Sunday. You watch, it鈥檒l be 20 degrees.

If these people really do feel the need to stroke one anothers egos they should do it without recourse to ramming it down the throats of the public on prime time television.

    Good morning all

Up here in rural Scotland we don't get many opportunities to go see famous rock bands, nor do we get many invitations to events like the Brits. I'm not sure it's really my cup of tea, to be honest. Not all us celebrities are cut from the same cloth.

Anyone who has been reading my blog will realise that I am more a fan of the popular music from the 1980's. That wonderful band 'Bucks Fizz' - sadly no longer with us, were pioneers and ambassadors in equal measure.

My last 2 encounters at venues offering my favourite genre of live music have both resulted in criminal charges. Bizarre, I know. Maybe I should eschew attending such events at all, and concentrate on a more home-oriented hobby such as scrabble.

You can read about my musical mis-adventures in the book of the blog.

    In other news....

Yesterday, a funny thing happened whilst I was out in the garden. I saw a hedgehog in what I thought was a state of innebriation. He looked a bit different to the other hedgehogs, and I was immediately intrigued as to what might have happened. So I brought him inside. He was very quiet for a while, so I turned my attention to other things. I left him on the office desk and went to make a cup of tea. When I came back, he seemed to be asleep. I poked him a bit, and to my complete surprise this happened...

As far as I can tell, Chris, you are absolutely right in saying it is there solely to make the "corporate no hopers" feel important. In my job I was supposed to be one of them last year, but due to circumstances beyond my control (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) the invite had to be turned down. Quite glad really. I like to count myself in the corporate hopers. Just haven't decided yet whether my hope lies in ditching the corporate bit and going my own way in life (FYI - I too am an accountant, so I can fully identify with the thoughts of 'Matt from Rudgwick' and 'The BigUn' - if only we'd been brave enough to choose to do something interesting after University! But it's too late for that, so a mid-life crisis is the only way out. Anyone know a good Harley Davidson dealer? Is 40 a suitable age or should I hold on for another year or two...or..panic...have I missed that boat too?)

Who cares about Sky? Just ditch the subscription and write instead. If you are all bloggers, I can guarantee that many of you have a deep-seated urge to write. A lot of you are clearly talented and funny. Go for it! I am currently writing a book in between spells of boredom (aka work). 6 chapters down, 6 to go!

There are a number of other things that I am not caring about today. I shall keep them to myself, because:
    a) I don't want to offend any of you.
    b) it probably wouldn't get past the blog police
    c) it wouldn't make any difference anyway

Le Train Bleu which is at the Gare de Lyon. It is a belle epoque restaurant which has to be seen to be believed. The website is www.le-train-bleu.com and you can either take a look round, grab a coffee or indulge yourself from their fabby menu.

The Musee d'Orsay is also well worth a look - it used to be a railway station and houses some of the best paintings, from Monet and Manet to Van Gogh and Millet.

You can get to the Musee d'Orsay and other well known sights by a Batobus, which is a water taxi and if the weather's good is a lot better than the Metro. It has 8 stops from the Eiffel Tower to the Champs Elysees, Musee d'Orsay, the Louvre and on to Notre Dame - it's about 11 euros for a day or 13 euros for 2 days.

Have a great time and look forward to hearing about it.

So good on yer! May they all follow sheep like.

Went to see Casino Royale last night with my boyf, and here's my review:

Stylish, exciting, beautiful and very sexy. A great film, and I'm no big Bond fan, oh and how gorgeous is he? Phwarr! Hope he makes many more and doesn't go all "I didn't want to be typecast" on us?? The boyf loved it too.

A happy Thirsty Thursday to all!

Watching music on TV is just a bore!

Listening to music allows you to close your eyes and transport yourself to wherever takes your fancy.
Watching music? Why? What's the point?

So there you go, I don't mind who presents the BRITS. I've never watched it and never will... I'd just get upset if Chris took a day off from the show to present it because I'd miss him!

The Britpop Brits in 95 was excellent... I believe Chris was the host for that one too if I remember correctly.

David Bowie and Placebo in 99

    The Gorillaz opening in 2002...Superb

I had a great time at last years Brits Nominations launch thing at the Riverside Studios (although I was saddened to see The Odd Spot was no more !)

KT Tunstall, Kaiser Chiefs and The Magic Numbers all put on an awesome show, and Chris, you looked like you were enjoying yourself too (for the few minutes I saw you)!!! It was a good night.

I for one will definitely be watching this year. Yes, Prince was very self indulging last year and I鈥檓 sure someone else will be just the same this year. The one thing I鈥檝e always loved about The Brits is the collaborations - Robbie and Tom Jones was one of the best! Justin and Kylie not so much so! (Just my opinion!)

Even if you don't get it published by the book police (aka publishers in the official book industry - they have us closet writers by the same parts of the anatomy that Murdoch has all you Sky subscribers)...you can publish it yourself on the web for not very much money. See www.lulu.com and others.

Even if no-one else reads it or likes it.

The important thing is DOING IT.

Do it for us, do it for England (oops - assumption in there...sorry, do it for wherever you live/associate yourself with), do it for Chris, but most importantly of all...

    DO IT FOR YOURSELF.

Don't know what's come over me all of a sudden. I've started caring again.

Lynne, I know how you feel, I lost my dog 3 years ago this month (had him for 18 years), I had gone with him to the vets to talk them out of putting him down but in the end I also had him put to sleep in my arms. It was so hard, but I'm glad I was with him at the end. I know the wound never heals, you just learn to keep going. Its ok to cry whenever you want to, I still do.

Talking of crying, did anyone see the Brain Hospital on 麻豆社1 last night? A frail old gentleman was having brain surgery to help his Parkinson鈥檚 disease. It was heart wrenching; he had just suffered a blood clot in his lungs and his wife was standing by him, he couldn鈥檛 talk so he started to write something with his finger on his wife鈥檚 hand while they were holding hands. He wrote "I Love You". Of course the tears flowed!!! I hope that when I am old I still have my partner (whoever it will be) and I will still be totally in love as they both seemed to be, he said once he had recovered that he lived for each moment she came in to visit him, that is what got him through. It was a very humbling moment, makes you realise life is so precious and how fantastic true love can be.

Thank you to Katrien, Hel Cruse, Cathmel, Joanna, Ms Mayhem, Cath, Jo, Nicki, Lyndyloo, for your kind advice to me from Monday's blog, helped me to do some serious thinking and I felt very special that you all took the time to comment. Chris! Are you there? Listen up, I've just had a brilliant idea!

I want 2 minutes on stage at the Brits to promote the book of the blog and it's charitable causes. One of them is CHILDREN IN NEED. Just think of the tie-in possibilities!

If you can't manage that, well, I guess I'll just have to settle for interrupting the village karaoke, again. Last year it was for a charity called Bunnies in Peril. I raised 10 pounds singing 'Relight my fire'. The charity was dissolved three days later, still owing a petshop 拢2500 for rabbit hutches that they couldn't afford. The petshop went bust 2 weeks later and released their bunnies into the wild. No one knows what happened to them.

Towards the end of the Prince performance I received a phone call asking me if I had a cat called Poppy and was she missing. I then hyperventilated as Pops had been missing for 10 days and I had given up all hope of finding her.

My housemate had to drive me down the road as I was more than a little shaky and we all had a tearfull reunion a couple of streets away.

Luckily Pops was still wearing the same collar the I got her the time I moved a few years ago which read "Recently moved please call my mum ..." and the lovely family who found her plaintively crying and looking very skinny in their garden thought it worth phoning the number.

After dropping her at home, I rushed to the supermarket to get litter as I didn't expect she would want to go out for a while. Along with some flowers, chocolates and wine which I took back to the heroes of the night, who were delighted and unassuming.

Back home again, I was greated by Mr Weller and curled up on the sofa to give Pops some tender love and care.

What a fabulous night, the Brits this year will remind me how lucky I am to still have her with me.

    P.S. There were two nuns鈥︹

One of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM), and the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL).
It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent.
SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for the past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants.
SL: It's logical. He wants to rape us.
SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes at the most! What can we do?
SL: The only logical thing to do of course is to walk faster.
    SM: It's not working.
SL: Of course it's not working. The man did the only logical thing. He started to walk faster, too.
SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute.
SL: The only logical thing we can do is split. You go that way and I'll go this way. He cannot follow us both.
So the man decided to follow Sister Logical.
Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is worried about what has happened to Sister Logical.
    Then Sister Logical arrives.
SM: Sister Logical! Thank God you are here! Tell me what happened!
SL: The only logical thing happened. The man couldn't follow us both,so he followed me
SM: Yes, yes! But what happened then?
SL: The only logical thing happened. I started to run as fast as I could and he started to run as fast as he could.
    SM: And?
SL: The only logical thing happened. He reached me
SM: Oh, dear! What did you do?
SL: The only logical thing to do. I lifted my dress up.
SM: Oh, Sister! What did the man do?
SL: The only logical thing to do. He pulled down his pants.
SM: Oh, no! What happened then?
SL: Isn't it logical, Sister? A nun with her dress up can run faster than man with his pants down.
And for those of you, who thought it would be dirty, say two Hail Marys!

#42 Caroline - yeahhhh, carry on with your book. Do you know, it was so lovely reading fellow bloggers encouraging you to go for it.....

In my (conviscated) post yesterday I wrote that I have had ambitions to be a journalist. In my post, I mentioned (as a joke) that I would like to be the side-kick of the male political editor of Sky News. I wrote it in the context of the discussion of the day yesterday, Mr M and his empire. I said that I loved footie so would miss that were I to abandon Sky and also would miss the afore-mentioned editor who seems to present bulletins 'live' at all times of the day and evening, so clearly didn't need much sleep, so I thought he and I would get on just swell. I won't mention his name again as I think that maybe that was the reason my post never made it. Sorry to go into all that guys - one always has a certain sentimentality about posts that never make it to print. Perhaps journalism and me are mutually exclusive.

Dr J McC....A thought occurred to me during my hours of wakefulness last night. I had taken an over-the-counter sleep-inducing (so-called) tablet, but I fear lest it had got conglomerated (is that a word? it is now) with the delightful cuisine ingested prior which I fear increased the half-life of said tablet, as it's effect seemed to kick-in as I was due to wake up at 6.30am this morning. I wonder if you run a course such as 'Dosage On Pills Easing Sleep (DOPES)' for incompetents such as me? In anticipation........

Sorry to hear about chef - i am lucky, Hubby is in the kitchen making the xmas cake - yum yum. Smells fantastic - bottle of brandy ready to add between now and the festive season. Looking forward to the icing bit so i can eat the bits cut off - even more yummy.

p.s i had a fab dog called Shep when i met my husband, sadly he is allergic to dogs but loved me and the dog so much he suffered a runny nose for 10 years til sadly he died! Now he has a great sense of smell and no weezing.

p.p.s not able to convince him to have another dog so we have 2 cats instead. They are lovely and great fun to watch them playing. always best to get another pet after loosing one, never forget but you can give so much love to them it fab to have the unconditional love back.

    Hi all,

Just remembering the Brits. As a teen in the mid 80s I used to watch them (were they called the BPI awards then???) I had a blank video in the machine and pressed record every time WHAM! appeared even if it was for a split second as nominees were read out.
I remember the heart thumping tension as I listened intently to see if George and Andrew won, screamed and cheered when they did, thumped my brother and cried shut up when he laughed if they didn't.
The point was though it was a suprise, I didn't know if they had won or not until the night. I haven't watched it for a years now, mainly because I already know who won the day before, so I guess that makes your point Chris.

Nathan #15 - I've just spent 9 months in Paris as part of my Year Abroad, it's great! Definitely go to the Musee d'Orsay, as somebody else said, visit the Luxembourg Gardens (flowers always seem to be gorgeous regardless of the season!), wander round Place des Vosges near Bastille and soak up the expensive atmosphere!, go to Montmartre too if you have time and if it's a lovely clear day, the views will be great, see the Eiffel Tower by night from the Trocadero, and there should also be an icerink at Hotel de Ville!! Don't know how long you're going for but that should keep you busy!

Ooh and if you're into quiet peaceful places then visit Sainte Chapelle, which also does great classical music concerts of an evening and has amazing stained glass windows. Opera Garnier also worth a visit and Versailles if you're adventurous enough to get out there!! If you're round the Bastille area, where I was living, there's a great friendly restaurant called Les Portes on Rue Charonne, try it! And La Serie LimiThee, a super friendly cafe, does beautiful brunch on a Sunday morning, rue Trousseau near the equally great Place d'Aligre market = both in the 11th near Bastille.

Sorry, all of that may well just be specific to you Nathan and not to everyone else but wanted to pass on my ideas as you asked! Have a great time and tell us all about it!

While I fully support Christophe in his bid to kick the habit, I am quite insensced at the Scottish Parliament's bid to increase the legal age of smoking to 18.

Now two things you should know: I am Scots and a non-smoker (although like Chris I used to have the odd puff now n again). Another thing you should know that 16 is the age of majority in Scotland, so at 16 you are regarded as an adult.

So whether I agree with 16 as the age or majority or not, it is ridiculous that as an adult, able to stand on one's own two feet, marry and raise a family, go to war as a member of HRH's armed forces, you cannot go into a newsagent's and buy a packet of cigarettes.

We all know that smoking harms our health, so the choice to smoke belongs to the individual. Despite this knowledge the government is not going to ban tobacco products in general, (because the Treasury would loose so much money as was highlighted by the panic about being able to buy cheap fags n booze online). But they are willing to legisilate and make smokers feel like pariahs.

    The hypocracy is astounding.

Sleep deprivation is one of the perils of modern living. Although not medically qualified, I would suggest that your lack of sleeping had little to do with the ingestion of sleeping tablets or food. When I can't get to sleep I find it is usually because I have made the fatal error of trying to engage my brain in some useful and demanding activity after 10pm. My brain goes into overdrive if I work too late, and the penalty is that I cannot sleep.

If you can recall what you were doing immediately before you tried to sleep, you may find you have the answer.

Thus, today my entry will be short and if not sweet, anything but bitter.

"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much"

And on that, I bid you all a good day.

    Hi all,

I'm very late today but hopefully my posting will get beneath the radar. Yesterdays did not, don't know why, was trying to say there are no words to say after the loss of a loved one be they animal or human - so nothing rude there.

I also mentioned that the Sky thing would not bother me as I appear to be a little antiquated in my TV choice, no dish, no cable no set top box - don't think thats rude.

    Anyhoo,
Today I must agree with Big'un, buying a Harley, IMO is the start of a very slippery slope, after you have the bike you simply must have the jacket, T shirts, Bandana, socks even ruddy underpants, not to mention several v expensive lids, to match whichever Harley outfit you are wearing today.

Don't get me wrong I think they are beautiful bikes, it's just the whole lifestyle thing I'm not into.

You also (also IMO) begin to turn into a bit of a bore, sorry don't mean to upset anyone just talking from personal experience.

Well, I hope I have'nt upset anybody, If I have sorry it's only an opinion.

I like to talk about my dog at every opportunity; so I'm taking one today. She was the most beautiful Great Dane ever. She was described to us as a harliquin mismark but to us she was just stunning with markings of greys, black and white. She had beautiful brown eyes and an absolutely fantastic temperament. You will notice that I am talking baout her in the past tense. Unfortunately she passed away in september, very suddenly of a condition that large dogs are prone to - Bloat. What made the situation worse was that she died while my family and I were taking our first holiday in 2 years. By the time we returned she had gone - completely apart from her collar which the kennels had kept for us. It was devastating and one of the hardest things to come to terms with. The kennels had known her since she was 8 months old and were terribly upset also; but I have some peace knowing that she was with friends and having a good time before this hideous thing took her away from us. She died in her sleep and was unlikely to even know what was happening. There is a huge hole in my heart and in the heart of our home where she once took pride of place and the tears sting as I think of her beautiful face. She is running free at The Rainbow Bridge with all the other pets who leave us too early. I didn't know about this place until Cagney - for that was her name (after Jimmy) - passed away but I would recommend any grieving pet owner to find out about this wonderful limbo where our loved pets wait for us to take them for a walk once again.

I had a dog called Oscar he was big and black and beautiful - a doberman/lurcher cross but so soft and so funny! I was devastated when we had to let him go but now I remember all the fun we had - he was always scrounging for food and was so nosey, he had this habit of sticking his head into my rucksack when I got home to see if I had anything in there for him, one day my mobile phone rang from inside the rucksuck when he had his head in there - I've never seen him move so fast - he scooted across the other side of the room to my Dad who he thought would offer him protection from whatever "monster" had startled him in there - it was so funny. So Lynne soon you'll just remember all the good times and yes, get another dog as soon as it feels right - they're brilliant and enrich our lives so much.

Simpy because behind the scenes YOU find it long and boring, well that's not the point, the Oscars is hours longer than is broadcast and most celebs say it is interminably dull. The edited version the TV audiences actually see is the most important thing. If you find top acts and artists performing boring, then that is simply a reflection on the current state of music. The idea that the only way to liven it up is have something 'controversial' happen or be said I find idiotic. Shouldn't this thing called 'music' be entertainment enough?

As far as Prince's performance goes, whether or not he is a pain-in-the-arse diva shouldn't take away from the fact it was a mind-blowing performance that blew the rest of the current acts away. Prince wasn't boring, he just made everybody else look boring in comparison. I haven't talked to a single person since who hasn't acknowledged he was fantastic that night. Like it or not, Prince is an acknowledged legend, especially when it comes to live performances, and any opportunity to have him play live should be gratefully accepted. Can't help but think you're just picking on him because of personal animosity due to that time he cancelled an interview with you, and that's rather petty.

Yes Prince is a pretentious little arse, but unfortunately he falls into the catagory of arses that happen to be brilliant, seeing him there lit a spark, he's one of the few people left who is willing to do something a bit different, it doesnt always work but rather that than Lily Allen.

And as for Prince's performance - that surely was totally show stopping. The problem was that the bar was set so high for the rest of the night's performers that they looked bland in comparison. The energy from his performance was screaming out of the TV screen and I could tell that the place was excited that he was playing.

Ol purple pants may not be hitting the charts with regularity these days but in terms of world class live performers I'd say there was no one close to him.

The fact that he's a pain in the backside is hardly new - even with his performance on the American Idol final this year they didn't know for sure he was going to turn up until about 10 minutes before his slot.
