Title: Tragedy

by David | in writing, fiction

Dark and alone, he contemplates his life; how it has led here, and how it will continue. For he has reached a culminating point; the point where he no longer sees what is ahead. He has always seen the next step, the progression of the present, but now he perceives only the present, and it scares him. He is not confused; he knows why he has become blind to the future, but it is for that reason that he feels alone. For the first time in his life, despite being isolated and separate for years, only now does he realise the uncertainty of life, and the bliss of ignorance. A single bead seeps from his eye and dribbles mournfully down his face.

A door parts. Footsteps are heard, echoing darkly off the walls. They stop. He wipes his cheek. He puts on his mask. The mask has no emotion. The mask has no fear. The mask cannot die.

He can.

I was inspired to write this when I realised that evil is only measured from one point of view, so I took something like a comic book villain and examined his life from his view, and what he must do to maintain his facade.
