Title: Smells...

by Josh from East Sussex | in writing, poetry

The smell of happiness is the scent of success.
All rosy and warm, but why do we guess?
Running through a field of freshly cut grass.
The aroma of brains buzzing about the class.

The smell of fear is the whiff of defeat.
All stagnant and stale, like an unwashed sheet.
The pong of a dog running through a stream.
Is the putrid stench of my lonely scream.

The smell of home is the scent of safety.
The aroma of bread freshly baked daily.
The essence of flowers drifting a breeze.
The innocence of my mother, I stop and I freeze.
