Title: I'm not growing up!

by Amy from Lancashire | in writing, fiction

A young teenage girl stands confidently

Megan

I am a Warrior a leader a knight. I've won battles of hundreds. Against all sorts of monsters.

(She fights off several monsters targeting to the sides of her.)

I have done all those things! (She shouts convincingly in a protective way)

I am a warrior - well at least I was. It's this thing called.... (she breaths out nervously and leans forward) growing up. see... (she looks behind her)

Her Mum and Dad sit with a desk in front of them. It's parents evening and a teacher walks over. The teacher shakes his head and slams a folder onto the desk. Her parents begin to shake there heads and sigh looking disappointed towards Megan.

(Megan looks forward again) There tellin me I should listen more. That I should stop it with the fantasy world.(she sighs confused). To - grow up! Look!

Behind Megan her Nan and Grandad sit in their arm chairs. Many cousins and family members come in. Her grandparents get up and smile kissing each individual on the cheeks in a loving way.

Don't get it wrong I love my family! But they don't understand. Get a job....me! (she giggles)
Seriously?

Behind her a group of her friends sit reading books quietly studying with serious expressions on their faces.

My friends, they wanna be just like everybody else now! (she shivers and looks at them confused). I'll have to step into this reality soon... but I won't leave my world (she taps her head)... never.

Megan smiles and walks over to her friends and starts to talk as if telling them a story.

When I was younger I used to make believe a lot. Inventing fantasy worlds and stories with my friends. When everyone else grew up they started to want to have normal more realistic (easier) goals yet I still live in the fantasy world. I did when I was little I doubt I'll ever loose my imagination. At least I hope not.
