Scene 1 ' Glasgow, a school
(The classroom is full of chatting and bustling pupils. The teacher, Miss Stewart, tries to read the register over the noise. A nervous-looking girl walks in.)
Miss Stewart: Are you the new girl? (Girl nods) Class, this is Jane from Uist in the Western Isles.
(Everyone stops talking and stare at the new girl for a few seconds. They then turn back to their conversations).
Miss Stewart: (Raising her voice over the noise) Sarah, show Jane around.
(Miss Stewart returns to her work. Sarah looks Jane up and down, then turns back round and continues to talk with her friends. Jane sighs, then sits herself at an empty table at the back of the class.)
Scene 2 ' Corridor
(Sarah is standing outside the class, tapping her foot impatiently, while Jane talks to Miss Stewart. She walks out and looks at Jane nervously.)
Sarah: Hurry up! (Grabs Jane and starts to drag her along the corridor). There's Geography (pointing) ' there's Maths (pointing, then turns around and looks at Jane) What's wrong ?
Jane: (Mumbling)' don't wanna be here. (Starts to cry)
Sarah: (Looking shocked) Why? It's great here.
Jane : (Stops crying, starts to mumble again) In my old school they said all teenagers here are drunk, drugged-up and are in gangs that stab everyone.
Sarah: (Looking annoyed and shocked) People think that? (Starts to laugh) Nobody here's like that.
(Jane stops to think for a second. She doesn't look upset anymore).
Jane: Is there lots of pressure here?
Sarah: (Starts to giggle) Yeah there's pressure, just ignore it. (Puts her arm round Jane) Listen to yourself. That's what being young is all about. Being yourself, making mistakes, having fun and being happy.
(Jane looks much happier. She and Jane start to walk away).
Sarah: Just be yourself and you will fit right in.
(Both girls start laughing and join another group of girls. They all start talking and laughing).
My story is about a girl, who is from a small town in Uist, who moves to a high school in Glasgow. She is very worried because her friends from her old school have told her some stories about Glasgow. But a girl from her new school shows her around and explains what it¿s really like. My inspiration was just thinking about what living in the UK was like and how I would react if everything around me changed.
