Title: Life as a teenager

by jasmine | in writing, fiction

Scene: Dirty looking street. Close-up on a boy who looks dirty too, he turns and looks back at a house lit up from the inside, you then hear adults shouting at each other. There is a voiceover of the boy speaking.42
Adam: I am Adam, my life is total wreck, I've decided to run away, here's my story.16
The camera moves away from the boy and then turns to a black screen the next scene is then shown. It is in the house, Adams mum and dad is there too.74
Mum: (spoken quietly 76) We need to talk to you? 22 (3 of them sit down on Adams bed 84)
Adam: What? 23
Dad: Me and your mother think we're not quite right for each other and believe maybe its time for a short break 44
Adam: your breaking up 47 (said in a dry voice 89)
Mum: Don't think of it that way...53
Adam: (Standing up and looking at them, shouting 96) Don't try and rephrase it, why you telling me, I don't care, I've wanted you guys to split up for ages anyway.75 (With tears swelling up in his eyes he runs out into the dark and dirty street and goes to the park 117)
(Gets out his mobile and texts his mates saying: Do ya thnk u can come to the park. The text back says: listen, id lik 2 help n all but word got out we're m8s and that n I thnk maybe, we shouldn't hang anymr, soz.163)
Adam :( throws his mobile on the floor angrily, crying 171)
(Sobbing loudly, slumps himself on the metal fence surrounding the park 182)
(Next scene: in the kitchen of his house, he opens the cupboard mindlessly and finds some of his father's alcohol, he drinks all the bottles and lies on the floor crying, then falls asleep 216)
(He wakes up and looks around him, then at his watch: 5:00am. He listens and hears his parents shouting 235)
Adam: ( Frowning 236), No more.77 (He goes up stairs in the dark and quietly packs a bag with money, some clothes and a passport. He walks out the door where the beginning happens again-there is a close up on him looking scruffy in the scruffy street, over voice then says 282)
Adam: That's my story, that's the reason I'm running away, I don't know where I'm going, but I don't care because I'm Free. Free 100 (then the camera backs away from him as he walks away 293)

The story is about a boy having troubles with his friends and family and he is having troubles overcoming them. I got inspiration for writing this play by realising I am much luckier than others, which made me think more into the worst case scenario of some teenagers.
