Title: A ray of light

by Mushki | in writing, fiction

Everything was going terribly wrong. She didn't know what to do anymore. Her disease was threatening to suck the little normality she had left into a murky whirlpool of nothingness. Well, it wasn't really a disease as such, but in her mind it was not only that but it was so much worse. When they had left the doctors office yesterday, it hadn't seemed too bad. She would need to be on serious medication for the foreseeable future, but at least everything had been explained to her on her level, the'.unexplainable bouts of depression. The doctor had seemed so nice, he had smiled reassuringly and said in his stiff voice, 'this will pass, you will get better, don't worry too much.' But she was worried, and after she had read up about it online this morning, the horrific stories, the frightening consequences'.it just became too painful to be true. And it wasn't just that, it was the fact that nobody seemed to care, no one at all.
Her little sister didn't know about it, she didn't want to worry her, but apart from that, her parents hadn't seemed the slightest bit bothered that their daughter was now officially, mentally ill. Her mum was always occupied with work, and when she was home she was continuously on some sort of phone call marathon, never stopping to put the phone down, and her dad, well he lives somewhere else now, and when she rung him up to tell him he just mumbled, 'ok darling, I'm sure the doctors know what they're doing,' and then he gave such an utterly lame excuse and hung up. To top it all off, not one of her friends has called her up to find out why she wasn't in school the day before. Even her best friend was ignoring her. She definitely had every right to be depressed. She felt a massive headache coming on, not the ordinary kind, but the sort that feels as if your head is being squeezed very tightly.
Just then, the vibration of her mobile is felt on her thigh and she reaches automatically into her pocket to open the text.
'Just a little message to make you smile, I want you to know how special you are, I am so lucky to be your friend. I love you so, so, so, so, much. Hugs and kisses, xxx'
A ray of light in a very dark world. The silver lining of the rain cloud. People do care, just not everyone.
