Title: Real friends

by Kym/Babes from Berkshire | in writing, fiction

We'll we've arrived. I didn't want to move. I knew we had to for mum, she couldn't cope any more, the money wasn't coming in fast enough. Then mum got a call offering her a better job up north she took it; despite me and my sister not wanting her to. She just kept saying it's for the best. I just can't imagine my life without my friends. I've already lost my dad. He died two years ago from cancer. It's since then that mum's had financial problems. Her job just didn't pay well enough to look after me and my sister single-handedly. She wanted my nan's help. So we moved in with her until this job came up. We've moved up north now near Manchester. I don't want to be here, I want to be at home with my mum, dad, my sister and my friends. Mum says I'll make new friends. But it just won't be the same. Mum decided that she would enrol us into Heath High straight away, so that we can catch up on the work and make friends quickly. (That's not going to happen) we've been here less than a week and I have to go into school tomorrow.

I went into school today. I decided just to go without any fuss so that mum wouldn't worry. I spent the whole of break on my own. I just sat up in the library reading my book. But the strangest thing happened in the lesson before lunch one of the girls came over and said 'I saw you sat on your own at break, would you like to come with us at lunch' I nodded and politely said 'yes I'd like that' and she walked off saying 'meet us by the lockers outside, at the end of the lesson'. Her name was Becky she was really nice to me she told me all about the time when she was the new kid and how hard it was.
I hung around with Becky and her friends for the rest of the week. I always knew that Becky's best friend Alisha didn't like me because she never really spoke to me.

Then this one lunch time she started being really mean to me saying I was taking her best friend away from her. It hadn't even crossed my mind that Becky was spending more time with me than with her. It went on for weeks without any one noticing, not even Becky. When Becky did find out she didn't say anything because she didn't want to fall out with Alisha. So it just continued for another few weeks. In the end I had had enough so I confided in Becky, telling her everything. She kept saying 'why didn't you tell me?' Then she told me why she hadn't done anything. She told me that Alisha was really nasty to her when she first came and she figured that making friends was the only way to stop her from bullying her. 'That's why you wanted me to be friends with her so that she wouldn't bully me as well' I said, she replied with a whisper 'yes'.

We decided to go and tell our tutor. Alisha never spoke to Becky again or me. And now me and Becky are the best of friends. 'I never had a proper best friend till you came, I was only friends with Alisha because I was scared of her' I think that's the only reason that Lilly and Grace were friends with her too. Alisha now only has 1 real friend and that's Emily because Lilly and Grace came with us to get her into trouble. But since then she hasn't bullied anyone. (Well not that I know of). Mum was right I would make new friends. I've got the best friends ever. Becky, Lilly and Grace. I'm glad we moved.
