Title: Behind closed doors

by Naomi | in writing, poetry

We'll never know what goes on
Behind closed doors, when the lights aren't on.

We'll never know what she's done
Have those kids ever seen the sun?
Do they go to school? Does she go to work?
Why are they always filthy with dirt?

We'll never know how she feels
When she shuts her eyes and skips her meals.
Why is she sad? Why is she crying?
She used to be amazing. She used to be flying.

We'll never know what he thinks
About his so called mates that smoke and drink.
Does he really like them? Does he want to be 'cool'?
Did he really have sex or was he just playing pool?

We'll never know what that baby heard
In its first few weeks in this world.
Was it love and trust, or hate and lies?
Will it ever learn to run and hide?

We'll never know what goes on
Behind closed doors, when the lights aren't on.

I watch people on the bus and in the street and I like to try imagine the stories of their lives
