Title: The Soldier Undone

by Laura from Buckinghamshire | in writing, poetry

If I should die, think only this of me.
I died for you as you knew all along.
I stood in the cold and the wet and scum
And looked out to night to search for stars.
Know there's some corner of a foreign field
Where, for England, I will always face east
And where more men will fall on foreign sand
When wind will blow, and reveal blank eyes.

In a row in a tent, crammed with these men
My body will be found thirteenth across
Between a doctor and a loyal friend
Below a savoir you denied the chance.
We lie for England and for the cause,
We lie in the wars to end all wars.
