The Your Label team visited in London and had the chance to see loads of student collections and speak to lots of designers, models, press and fashion industry figures.

They got loads of ideas and advice but you don’t have to go to a big event like this to get some good tips.

DIY Your Label:

Who to Approach:

Think about anyone you know or have any connection with who might be able to help you. Anyone with a connection to the fashion industry is worth talking to. If you have a local college or University with a fashion course it’s worth talking to the students, they’ve probably been involved with catwalk shows and will have advice for you. Speak to as broad a range of people as possible.

The is a great place to get help and advice too.

Advice:

The Your Label team got three crucial pieces of advice at Graduate Fashion Week which any aspiring designer should take note of:

1. By looking at the student collections they gained an understanding of the level of professionalism needed in a collection, not just the ideas but the professional finish to the garments.

2. Although they had some ideas about their collection they didn’t really know what they were trying to achieve or what the collection would be like.

3. They realised that they didn’t have that much time and they needed to start getting more organised.

Inspiration:

The other important thing the Your Label team got from Graduate Fashion Week was inspiration from all the fantastic collections on show. Look at other peoples collections (particularly the student collections) and you’ll get an idea of the standard you need to reach.
