TEACHER: Hello Thomas and Nora. Today we are at a Christian church. Christians go to church to pray and feel closer to God.In the Bible, Jesus鈥 followers asked him how they should pray, so Jesus taught them how to say the Lord's Prayer. It is said to be the perfect prayer.
We see Jesus praying with his disciples.
THOMAS: How come it's so perfect?
*We see Jesus pray and look upwards to Heaven. The disciples watch. *
TEACHER: It's the perfect prayer because it contains everything a prayer should have. It asks God for the basic things needed to survive, teaches the importance of forgiveness and it asks for help not to sin. It also teaches Christians to respect God.
*The disciples start praying. Jesus watches on proudly. *
NORA: Do Christians only say this prayer?
TEACHER: Christians pray in lots of different ways - through saying learned prayers like the Lord鈥檚 Prayer, and also using their own words. Even singing is a way to pray and worship God. Prayer can be done in private and also as a community.
We see a priest, a singer and the disciples worshipping God.
NORA: Just like how Jesus taught the disciples to pray!
The Lord鈥檚 Prayer
The Lord鈥檚 Prayer is a Christian prayer that Jesus taught the disciples.
Some Christian churches say the Lord鈥檚 Prayer slightly differently to others, and some call it the Our Father.
How does the Lord鈥檚 Prayer help us?
The Lord's Prayer reminds us:
鈥 God is our father, who lives in Heaven
鈥 we should respect His name
鈥 we should live as Jesus taught us to
鈥 we should forgive others who have hurt us
Asking for forgiveness and help
The Lord鈥檚 Prayer also helps us to ask God for forgiveness for things that we have done wrong.
By saying the Lord鈥檚 Prayer Christians are also asking God for the things they need, like food and shelter.
