A brief overview of the Bayeux Tapestry, which is actually an embroidery sewn by English craftsmen. The clip highlights its purpose, history and function. Several sections are shown in more detail to relate how and why the tapestry came to exist and how it was made. In the main central band alone - 600 men, 200 horses and 50 dogs are depicted. Sections are broken up by trees and the borders are made up of beasts and animals.

This clip could be paused regularly on shots of the tapestry and students could pick out examples of Normans and Anglo-Saxons. Students could also be given photographs of the tapestry and work in groups to come up with their own interpretation, and tell their own stories. This could spark a debate about how history is interpreted.
