The extravaganza started with a vibrant procession of music, dancing and colourful costumes in the true spirit of the Caribbean. See our pictures... The Birmingham Carnival returned in glorious sunshine, with a festival of dance, music, and colourful costumes, to give a real taste of the Caribbean.  Carnival dancers The highlight of the day was the mardi-gras style procession, when thousands of spectators lined the route from Handsworth Park to Perry Park, to watch the dance troops, all wearing fabulous costumes made from sequins, feathers and beads. The procession was lead by this year's Carnival Queen Shinade Reid.  Carnival dancers Party in the parkThe carnival didn't end when the procession arrived at Perry Park, the party continued into the night. There was a vibrant mix of entertainment and stalls selling Caribbean food and crafts, as well as a funfair and bouncy castle.
