Hailing predominately from the Reading area, the high-spirited alternative rock outfit actually came together in Guildford in early 2006 when the band members met at music college.

The five-piece took inspiration from their surroundings to present an energetic, fresh, dynamic sound. The group swiftly started conquering its own fan base with much talked about live performances.

Within a few months the band went from playing local pubs to headline/ main support at such London venues as Clapham Grand, Sound (Leicester Square), The Orange (formerly West One Four) and the Wimbledon Watershed. These shows created press interest in the band with the NME Magazine stating:

"Hints of almost effortless grandeur and energy in places, combined with moments of great reflection and persuasion. Ones to look out for this year"

and Timeout Magazine proclaiming:

"What is: Protocol are undoubtedly one of the best bands to emerge from Reading this year. I feel convinced they have a great future ahead of them, and will be watching their progress very closely."

They were fast becoming recognised on the alternative rock scene.

With the backing of Universal Music, the band quickly recorded a self-titled EP at Earth Terminal Studios (Vex Red, Hope Of The States) which harnessed all the dynamic energy created in their live performances onto a disc full of verve and vigour to outstanding results.

What is: Protocol are currently putting together final preparations for a headline showcase at the Clapham Grand to launch their self-titled EP.
