Marianne Grant survived the Holocaust by painting for Josef MengeleMarianne Grant was born in Prague in 1921. During the Second World War she was imprisoned in the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. Her talent for drawing helped to ensure her survival as she came to the attention of Joseph Mengele who used her to record is medical 'experiments'. After the war Marianne Grant used this trunk to emigrate to Glasgow, taking with her the collection of artworks that she had created in the ghetto and concentration camps. A selection of these are displayed with the trunk. In Glasgow she devoted herself to teaching future generations about the horror of the Holocaust.
