Reckitt & Sons Hull Metal menu card for the Representatives Dinner dated 6th july 1934. This one is contained inside a metal replica Dettol bottle. The cap comes off and the bottle opens top to bottom revealing inside the metal menu card and all the Representatives names including that of my Grandfather.
I have 13 of these unusual items dating from 1914 - 1936. Each one is different, ranging from an iron advertising robin starch inside it are metal flaps on which the menu and names of the Representatives are printed, a Brasso bottle inside which is a rotating metal menu and Representatives List, a folding Sailing Ship advertising Reckitts blue wash, and a folding metal Rolls Royce like a card.
In 1912 my grandfather then 25years old was asked if he would go to Western Canada to open up their business. When asked when he could go? He replied that he "could go tomorrow" We have pictures of him in Winnipeg, Banff, Lake Louise, Calgary, and Jasper wearing tweed suits and big wide snow shoes. The railroads were only just open in some parts. It is hard to imagine how he travelled around and how he kept warm in winter. He returned to Ireland in 1916 and continued to work for Reckitts
