Brown box holding 1939-45 Defence Medal

I didn't even know I had this but I found a small brown box in a bag of things my Dad had given me. When I picked it up a medal fell out. I thought it would have belonged to one of my Grandfather's who had both served in the wars but on closer inspection I discovered it was addressed to my maternal Grandmother Beatrice Ainslie. As well as the medal there was a folded piece of paper with a message from the Home Secretary saying that the medal was given for service during the war of 1939-45. My Grandmother had worked in munitions factories during the second world war despite having my mother who was only a year old when the war broke out. She had lived through both wars having been born in 1898. Her husband Christopher had served in the first world war after lying about his age to sign up. He had been in the Cavalry and my Grandmother still had his spurs. Her other claim to fame was that she had been a member of a woman's football team during the first world war while working in the war effort then.
