A festival was held in May 1975 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the granting of Glasgow's burgh charter in 1175. The festival was billed as the "greatest celebration the city has ever seen." Events included a Lord Provost's Procession, a Highland Gathering at Scotstoun and a "Song for Glasgow" contest sponsored by the Evening Times newspaper. Property of Robert Pool
