Great-grandfather was RSM in Indian Army and posted to China in late 1800s. He returned with selection of items taken from palace in Peking. This robe of a noble was authenticated by V&A and is representative of the types of 'booty' that Soldiers could take. There was quite a large haul, but my grand-mother had a bonfire of the Chinese furniture in the 1940s! There is this robe, a pair of 'royal' embroidered pyjamas and a little jewellery left.
