In July 1998, Royal assent was given to the Government of Wales Act 1998, leading to the creation of the National Assembly for Wales in 1999.
The Government of Wales Act 2006 increased the Assembly's legislative powers, allowing it to make more laws for Wales, known as Assembly Measures.
