Chinese paste jar

Contributed by trevorormandi

This Late Imperial Chinese Dynasty paste jar was purchased in a small town called Cibondang on the West coast of Java. The Chinese have a fairly long history of emigration to Indonesia. Its likely that this jar arrived with the second wave of Chinese as a result of the Opium Wars between 1850 and 1860. One wonders about its story and that of the community that brought this object to this area
