The Mortuary Cart was used in Millom and Haverigg around 1900. It was used to bring up bodies from the shore line. There was alot of shipping in the area due to the Iron Ore Mining and Ironworks industries. Because of the shipping there would always be a number of fatalities, like people falling from the ships etc. The bodies would be picked up and brought to the mortuary's at Millom or Haverigg. The hood was used to cover the face.
