Silver Ceremonial Key - First school

This silver ceremonial key was presented to Alderman John Williams Esq, of Aberdare House, Ogmore Vale as the first chairman of the Llangeinor School Board on the occasion of opening their first school in Blaengarw on April 4th 1888.

When the education Act of 1870 was passed it also allowed the women of the UK the right to vote on the members of the School Board and also granted them the right to serve as members of the School Boards.

School Boards were abolished by the Balfour Education Act of 1902 which replaced them with the Local Education Authorities which still exist to this day.
