This ticket was issued to Mr David Moneypenny, a Harland & Wolff painter who worked on Titanic's first-class accommodation. The creases in the ticket suggest it was folded and kept in his pocket.
Titanic was built for the White Star Line by Harland & Wolff in Belfast and launched 31st May 1911. When completed she sailed from Belfast on 2nd April 1912, bound for Southampton.
Titanic - invested with all the certainties of her era - sailed from Southampton to New York, 10th April 1912. At 11.40 pm on the 14th April 1912 Titanic struck an iceberg and sank two hours forty minutes later, at 2.20 am on the 15th April. Almost 1500 people perished in the disaster.
