This brass rabbit came into my possession when I was a law enforcement officer working with the American authorities in the cargo area of the John F Kennedy airport in New York.
It was sent, with thousands of other brass rabbits, from Thailand, as an attempt by drugs smugglers, to ensure that these rabbits could be imported without suspicion into the United States.
What they didn't realise was that the trial run was intercepted by international law enforcement officers.
The officers convinced the heroin smugglers that all was well and a further cargo of rabbits arrived containing 35 kilograms of heroin. Two men were arrested in Hong Kong and extradited to the US where they are now serving long prison terms.
