This Worcester transfer printed porcelain Mug was issued during the Seven Years war,1756 -1763. The engraving was done by Robert Hancock. It has a portrait print of the "Marquis of Granby". The Marquis of Granby was a famous war hero, who it was said "lost his wig during a military charge". (Not really true). The Worcester Porcelain Factory cashed in on the popularity of certain contempary figures from politics and military commanders during the Seven Years War. Other portraits printed include; William Pitt, The King of Prussia, General Wolfe, Admiral Boscawen and George II.
The Seven Years War was effectively the 1st world war because it covered 3 continents, America,Europe and Asia.
The Mugs relevance to history is that The seven Years War and Englands ultimate victory ,I believe, is the reason why Americans speak English and not French.
