These three screwdrivers were made by me in 1958 in the first weeks of my five-year apprenticeship at White Electrical Company in Amwell Street in Clerkenwell, the traditional home of scientific and electrical instrument-making in London.
The blades are hollow-ground to accommodate the special slotted screws used in instrument making.
My first job on my first day at work was taken up with sweeping the floor of the Test Room where I worked for my first two years. It was explained to me, by foreman George Waldron, that it was the easiest way to find my way around and get to know the people who worked there.
The screwdrivers sit in my tool-box and are still used.
