Newspaper hailing Calder Hall's opening

West Cumberland News's celebratory page reveals the local community's pride in its achievements and their awareness of their position in the forefront of nuclear technology. Calder Hall was the world's first civil nuclear power plant on a commercial scale, officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II on 17th October 1956. As one of the captions says "this... will live in history".
