These boots were worn by Elton John as the Pinball Wizard in Ken Russell's 1975 musical film 'Tommy' based on The Who's 1969 rock opera album of the same name. These giant Doc Marten's have platform support above and metal callipers and leather straps for attaching to the legs. They were made by Northamptonshire chemical firm Scott Bader. Elton John reportedly agreed to take the part on condition he could keep the large boots afterwards. Elton John sold them in 1988 and they were purchased by R. Griggs Group Ltd who own them today. They are on permanent display at Northampton Museum.
