This is the official logbook for recording successful John O'Groats-Land's End journeys, which people do in various ways (solo cycling, tandem, walking, etc). It reminds me of man's desire to stretch himself, and how so many people have taken up the challenge of travelling the entire length of the island. Being Cornish, I remember being told that unlike the rest of the UK, Cornwall was never invaded; although this is a lovely thought, I doubt it to be true and am sure that many peoples have been drawn to the countryside, climate and setting of Cornwall. I am also reminded of how resilient the land and its people have been over the many years, and of the decline of mining, shipbuilding and fishing across the county in my lifetime. Cornwall has a special place at the very end of our island and is almost entirely surrounded by sea. Like other very beautiful areas of the world, many have flocked to it throughout history. If only the old stones could tell us what they have seen over the years..
