Dettol, Brasso and Windolene are other famous brands from Reckitts.Reckitts is one of Hull's best known companies and became an international leader in the manufacture of household products. The Reckitt family were also major benefactors to the people of Hull.

The company was set up in 1840 by Isaac Reckitt when he purchased a starch works in Dansom Lane, Hull. The firm started by making starch-related products but soon branched out to include washing blue and blacklead for grates. Reckitt's Blue is an iconic product of the firm. In 1879 the company became Reckitt and Sons Ltd.

The company produced brands which would become household names that we still use today such as Brasso, Windolene and Dettol. In the 1920's Reckitt and J.J. Colman merged their overseas trade and in 1954 formally became Reckitt and Colman. Today, as Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc, they remain a major employer and have businesses all over the world.
