Introducing our ground-breaking outside broadcast vehicle in Northern Ireland!

New OB vehicle presents game-changing broadcast opportunities

We’re thrilled about the completion of the Northern Ireland team’s new multi-functional outside broadcasting vehicle—an industry-leading mobile production gallery, utilising cutting-edge IP technology and delivered by a Â鶹ÉçNI-led design team working with a Systems Integrator, Megahertz.

Valued at approximately £3.5m, this vehicle functions as a main gallery for studio productions such as Mastermind, and provides outside broadcast coverage of a wide range of events, particularly sport.

It is a fully-equipped mobile production gallery, offering fully IP video and audio architecture, including 14 high-definition Sony cameras, Sony vision mixer, Calrec sound console and EVS record/replay facilities.

Broadcast Connectivity

Business Operations Engineers deliver outside broadcast connectivity from our fleet of HD digital satellite vehicles.

Our NIHD2 is a multi-camera production vehicle for smaller outside broadcasts that can provide up to four satellite paths for distribution.

Two Mercedes Sprinters, SNGs, provide the chassis for our quick reaction multi-path, on-location satellite communications for newsgathering, sport, and other events.

Both are multi-camera capable, providing dual Mpeg4 satellite paths, as well as establishing high bandwidth IP paths over satellite connectivity.

With an onboard LiveU encoder incorporating several Mobile 4G SIMS, or using IP paths, this ensures that no matter where the story breaks, our editorial colleagues are guaranteed high quality video links back to the studio.

From GAA finals at Croke Park, US Presidential visits to Ireland and coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth the Second from Royal Hillsborough, our satellite vehicles provide the vital link in high definition around the Â鶹Éç Network.

Sound Control Vehicle 1

Sound Control Vehicle 1 is a multi-purpose audio vehicle, custom built for Â鶹ÉçNI, designed to provide high quality digital mixes for both live broadcasts and recordings. Based around a Yamaha PM1 Digital desk, this has been used as a mix truck on everything from orchestral concerts such as Proms in the Park, to festivals such as Oxegen, Electric Picnic, Belsonic and T-Vital, as well as comedy and current affairs.

Normally used for radio, it is also ideal for providing complex mixes for television programmes. With a quad split widescreen monitor permanently rigged, and space for other preview monitors, sound for television is easily catered for in the air conditioned control room.

Media Central

Media Central are responsible for managing the end-to-end Post Production workflows across Â鶹Éç NI.

The team of Media Operators help ensure that all media is effectively handled and ingested by using Avid Media Composer and a range of third-party Post Production tools. They are also on-hand to provide support to the Editors and Production staff at all stages throughout the Post Production process and to ensure the completed programmes are delivered in a timely fashion. For the most part this involves overseeing the DPP Delivery of files, which are Tech Reviewed and tested in-house using our AQC and PSE software, to ensure compliance with the Â鶹Éç’s Technical Delivery standards. In the case of live content, the team are also capable of recording incoming material through the use of Avid’s Fastserves, and for late Current Affairs deliveries, where DPP Delivery is not possible, the team are able to playout completed programmes to other broadcast centres across the regions.

As well as assisting in the delivery of programmes, Media Central are also responsible for providing access to Remote Edit Facilities through either physical hardware kits or by supplying a software based solution. This is supported by the integration of Avid Cloud UX, an online viewing platform where Edit material can be accessed safe and securely from any location. Through this end-to-end workflow, the Media Central team have been able to successfully support Productions from all over the world while based entirely in Northern Ireland.
